SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO—U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers identified Sunday morning a man sought out for failure to appear charges related to controlled substance violations by Placer County Sheriff's Office in Auburn, California.

Jarett Chamizo, 30, a United States citizen and resident of Sacramento, California, arrived at the Port of San Juan on board M/V Carnival Valor.

Law Enforcement databases alerted to an outstanding bench warrant for his arrest and CBP officers at the San Juan Seaport confirmed his identity and verified the outstanding warrant.

Homeland Security Investigations - Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agents and Puerto Rico State Police extradition officers took custody of the subject for extradition proceedings.

"Customs and Border Protection is an agency committed to securing our borders while at the same time cooperating with other law enforcement agencies in the enforcement of U.S. laws. CBP officers conduct themselves with utmost diligence and professionalism and will ensure that individuals that have transgressed the criminal justice system and are encountered at our borders are identified and detained," stated Marcelino Borges, director of field operations for Puerto Rico and the United States Virgin Islands.

CBP officers detect many individuals wanted by authorities in the continental U.S., upon their arrival to Puerto Rico or the USVI or their return to the mainland from the USVI.
