CBP Officers Seize Narcotics Worth over $1.68 Million at Del Rio Port of Entry

DEL RIO, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Field Operations (OFO) officers working at the Del Rio Port of Entry seized narcotics worth over $1.68 million in street value.

“This is a significant quantity of hard narcotics to be discovered,” said Port Director Liliana Flores, Del Rio Port of Entry.  “This methamphetamine interception underscores the seriousness of the hard narcotics threat that our officers face on a daily basis and the determination of CBP to uphold our border security mission and prevent these drugs from reaching U.S. streets.”

On Sunday, June 5, 2022, CBP officers assigned to the Del Rio International Bridge encountered a 2007 utility vehicle driven by a 47-year-old male Mexican citizen. A CBP officer referred the vehicle for further inspection, which included utilizing non-intrusive inspection (NII) equipment and a K9 search. After conducting a thorough secondary examination, officers seized six large packages containing 371.74 pounds (168.62 kg) of methamphetamine concealed within the vehicle.

The narcotics have an estimated street value of $1,686,200.

The narcotics and vehicle were seized by CBP OFO officers. The driver was arrested, and the case was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
