San Luis, Ariz. - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the San Luis port of entry arrested a 36-year old man Wednesday in connection with a failed marijuana smuggling attempt.
"The officers perform their enforcement efforts day-in and day-out, which demonstrates their dedication. A successful seizure like this one makes me very proud," said Robert L. Schroeder, acting Port Director.
The case unfolded when CBP officers processing inbound travelers referred a man driving a Ford F-250 into the vehicle secondary lot for further inspection. The truck was screened by a CBP canine team that alerted the officers to the auxiliary fuel tank area. Officers examined the auxiliary tank and discovered 15 bundles of marijuana with a total weight of approximately 224.4 pounds and an estimated street value of $502,656.
The man was immediately arrested and turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.
