Convicted Sex Offender Arrested by Border Patrol

TUCSON, Ariz. – U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested a previously deported sex offender near Nogales Monday morning.

Tucson Sector agents patrolling near the border apprehended 35-year-old Santiago Mariano-Aguirre at 8 a.m. Records checks revealed Mariano-Aguirre, a Mexican national illegally present in the country, was convicted of sex with a minor on September 30, 2005, by Humboldt County, California. He was sentenced to 180 days in jail.

Mariano-Aguirre faces prosecution for immigration violations.

All persons apprehended by the Border Patrol undergo criminal history checks using biometrics to ensure illegal aliens with criminal histories are positively identified.
