“Over the course of many years, you have dedicated much of your time to studying, and you have sacrificed a lot to be sitting here today.  I strongly believe that education is paramount to a successful future and because of your sacrifices, many doors will open for you,” said Jose A. Martinez, Assistant Chief Patrol Agent, “As you grow into young adults and begin your successful careers, I truly believe that you will make a difference, not only in Laredo, but wherever you call home in the future. I say this because after I read your bios I was very impressed. Students, I ask that you never stop learning and striving to be the best that you can be.”

The Border Patrol Youth of the Month program has recognized Laredo’s top high school seniors for over 30 years.  Together, with the collaboration of program partners, one student is selected each month from Laredo-area high schools as Border Patrol Youth of the Month. At the end of the school year, eleven Youth of the Month recipients are considered for the prestigious Border Patrol Youth of the Year award.
