Laredo Sector Border Patrol Releases Public Service Announcement on the Dangers of Crossing the Border

Release Date
Thu, 08/24/2017

LAREDO, Texas –The Laredo Sector Border Patrol has developed a Public Service Announcement (PSA) highlighting the dangers of crossing the border illegally.  The PSA labeled, “No Arriesgue Su Vida” (Don’t Risk Your Life) highlights the dangers people face once they place their lives into the hands of smuggling cartels. From crossing the Rio Grande River, to getting abandoned in the brush, to getting physically and sexually assaulted or being locked in a trailer during extreme temperatures, the PSA targets those thinking of placing their lives in the hands of ruthless smugglers. It tells the story of those that have endured the treacherous journey of crossing the border and relying on callous smugglers that have no regard for human life.  Border Patrol agents in Laredo have rescued over 1,000 illegal aliens this fiscal year which is a 23% increase from last fiscal year.  Additionally, the Laredo Sector has recorded over 70 deaths along the border which is a 12% increase from last fiscal year.

The Laredo Sector Border Patrol will continue to warn against the dangers of people crossing illegally into the United States through dangerous environmental conditions.  Our Border Safety Initiative (BSI) is a humanitarian, bi-national strategy designed to reduce illegal alien deaths, educate and inform potential illegal aliens of the dangers and hazards of crossing the border illegally, and to respond to those who are in life-threatening situations.
