Laredo Sector Chief Patrol Agent Hosts in Person Media Briefing on the Dangers of Crossing the Border Illegally

LAREDO, Texas – Today, Laredo Sector Border Patrol held a media briefing on the dangers of crossing the border illegally at the Gateway to the Americas International Bridge.

On June 22, Carl Landrum, Chief Patrol Agent of Laredo Sector Border Patrol held a very important media briefing about the dangers of crossing the Border illegally.  He was joined today by Acting Deputy Chief Patrol Agent Greg Burwell, and members of the Laredo Sector Executive & Command Staff. Chief Landrum spoke on the hazards of illegally crossing the border, reminded everyone that the United States continues to enforce its immigration laws.  Individuals and families should not put their lives at risk by taking this dangerous journey only to be sent back. Members of the media present got to experience a Border Patrol Marine unit boat tour, dynamic demonstration by Laredo Sector Special Operations Detachment (SOD), Horse Patrol Unit (HPU), and small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS), Emergency Rescue Beacons, and GoM Mirrored Patrol Brief.

Chief Patrol Agent Carl E. Landrum stated, “When someone decides to illegally cross the border, they are exposing themselves to the danger of possibly losing their life while crossing the river or traveling vast miles across ranches and remote areas under extremely hot conditions without sufficient food or water. They are also exploited by human smugglers who have no regard for human life. They simply view these people as inventory.”

The Laredo Sector continues to work with our key stakeholders, elected officials, local leaders, and non-governmental organizations to manage any increases of people illegally entering the country along the southwest border. Bottom line is this, illegally entering the United States between the designated port of entry is dangerous. Do not put your life at risk only to be sent back.

Laredo Sector agents have rescued over 5,000 people this fiscal year through our search and rescue capabilities and has 120 Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and 12 Paramedics in our ranks.  All are U.S. Border Patrol agents that have the training, certifications, and capability of treating migrants and fellow agents with immediate medical attention in the field.

Laredo Sector Border Patrol is thankful to our media partners without your assistance we could not message the dangers of crossing the border illegally.  Members of the media included local media networks from Univision, FOX, KGNS-NBC, Telemundo, JR Noticias, FOX, El Manana, Radio Formula, and Televisa.

Laredo Sector Border Patrol and our partners are committed to keeping our community and border secure.
