TUCSON, Ariz. – Tucson Sector Border Patrol Agents assigned to the Mobile Response Team foiled a substantial drug smuggling event seizing 224 pounds of marijuana, and nearly 9 pounds of meth east of Ajo, Monday.

MRT and canine agents patrolling a remote mountain pass detected and tracked a group of suspects carrying large bundles, leading to the discovery of marijuana and a backpack full of methamphetamines. A 32-year-old male Mexican national was arrested for smuggling and others in the group are still being pursued.

He was taken with the items seized to the Ajo Station for processing per Tucson Sector guidelines, where his case was referred to Homeland Security Investigations, Sells for further investigation. The confiscated items were tested and confirmed to be marijuana and meth.
