San Diego CBP Officers Apprehend Man Wanted for Homicide-Attempted Murder

SAN DIEGO – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the San Ysidro PedWest facility apprehended a man on Monday, who was wanted on homicide-attempted murder charges by authorities in Los Angeles, California.

On Nov. 4, at about 2 p.m., Mexican officials turned over Joey Alvarado, a 32-year-old U.S. citizen, to CBP officers at the PedWest facility. Officers queried law enforcement databases and matched Alvarado to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office arrest warrant, with a bail set at $1 million.

CBP officers turned Alvarado over to deputies with the U.S. Marshals Service for transport to the San Diego Central Jail to await extradition.

“Customs and Border Protection officials maintain collaborative relationships with our government of Mexico counterparts,” said Pete Flores, CBP Director of Field Operations in San Diego. “Partnerships with local and international law enforcement agencies are vital to creating a safer environment on both sides of the border and protecting our nation.”

Criminal charges are merely allegations.  Defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

CBP is charged with securing the borders of the United States while enforcing hundreds of laws and facilitating lawful trade and travel.
