FALFURRIAS, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien with a previous conviction for a sex offense against a child.

Earlier today, agents working in Brooks County located a group of seven illegal aliens attempting to circumvent the Falfurrias Border Patrol Checkpoint. While processing the group, agents discovered one of the men had a previous arrest in Houston, Texas, for sexual assault of a child. The Mexican man, identified as Angel Cardenas-Olivar, was found guilty and sentenced to four years in prison.

Border Patrol referred the man for federal prosecution for his illegal re-entry.

The public is encouraged to take a stand against crime in their communities and report suspicious activity at 800-863-9382.

Even with the spread of the COVID-19 virus, human smugglers continue to try these brazen attempts with zero regard for the lives they endanger nor to the health of the citizens of our great nation.  The U.S. Border Patrol agents of the Rio Grande Valley Sector will continue to safeguard the nation and community against these criminal elements.
