Yuma Border Patrol Agents Arrest Convicted Murderer

YUMA, Ariz. — Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents arrested a previously deported Mexican man Friday morning who was sentenced to prison following a 2001 murder conviction in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Agents apprehended 30-year-old Luis Cota-Lopez near Andrade, California, where he entered the U.S. illegally, and transported him to the Yuma Station. During processing, agents conducted a records check and learned that Cota served 11 years of a 15-year sentence for murder.

Cota remains in federal custody pending further disposition, per Yuma Sector guidelines.
