Yuma Sector Border Patrol Agents Assist with Arrest of Murder Suspect

YUMA, Ariz. –Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents were called to assist the Yuma Police Department (YPD) Wednesday evening in locating and arresting subjects who fled from the scene of a homicide that occurred days previous.

Three male suspects fled from YPD officers as they conducted a vehicle stop. Officers were able to take one subject into custody and requested assistance in locating the two outstanding subjects who absconded from the scene. In addition to Border Patrol agents, the Border Patrol Tactical Unit was activated to assist. An Air & Marine Operations Yuma Air Branch AS350 helicopter provided critical air support to guide Border Patrol agents and YPD officers. Within an hour, agents located and took both subjects into custody.

One suspect appeared to be suffering from a possible opioid overdose after his arrest. An EMT certified Border Patrol Agent quickly administered Narcan, an opioid antagonist, and attended to the individual until local EMS arrived.

One of the suspects was wanted in connection to a homicide investigation.  The second suspect was arrested by YPD for outstanding warrants and the third suspect was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The United States Border Patrol is frequently called to work with local law enforcement agencies in locating individuals by utilizing our tracking skills or to provide back-up in dangerous and dynamically evolving situations.  This successful collaboration is a great example of how the Border Patrol works with our law enforcement partners to make the communities in which we serve and live safer.
