Laurencio Gonzalez Jr.

On April 5, 2024, Field Technology Officer Laurencio Gonzalez Jr. was installing equipment on an 80-foot Remote Video Surveillance System Tower in Brownsville, Texas. After spending approximately two and half hours at the top the tower, FTO Gonzalez experienced a medical emergency during the decent. Hospital staff indicated he suffered a cardiac arrest and had succumbed to the related injuries.

FTO Gonzalez entered on duty with United States Customs and Border Protection, Office of Information and Technology on April 11, 2021. He was assigned to the Field Support Directorate East Texas South, in Harlingen, Texas. Gonzalez was a 27-year veteran of the United States Army, being deployed to both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. He was survived by his wife, three sons, two grandchildren, father, brother, and sister.
