Agents patrolling near Sasabe, Arizona encountered and arrested three previously deported Honduran nationals shortly after they entered the U.S. illegally. During processing, agents identified one of the individuals as Eldin Zuniga-Zuniga, 29, an MS-13 gang member with an extensive criminal history in Utah, to include a February 2017 conviction for possession with intent to distribute a dangerous drug.

Zuniga will remain in federal custody pending prosecution for criminal immigration violations involving re-entry of a previously deported felon. The two other Honduran nationals will also be processed for immigration violations.

All persons apprehended by the Border Patrol undergo criminal history checks using biometrics to ensure illegal immigrants with criminal histories are positively identified.
