EDINBURG, Texas – Rio Grande Valley Sector (RGV) Border Patrol agents arrested a convicted murderer and a female Mara-Salvatrucha (MS-13) gang member.
On Sunday evening, agents assigned to the Weslaco (WSL) Border Patrol Station, apprehended two illegal aliens near Progreso, Texas. During processing, agents discovered one subject, a Mexican national, had a prior arrest by the Harris County Constable for assault causing bodily harm. The subject was convicted and sentenced to 30 days confinement. Less than six months after his release, he was arrested again by the Houston Police Department for murder intentionally causing death. He was subsequently convicted and sentenced to 20 years confinement. The subject was deported from the United States in May 2020.
Yesterday evening, as Brownsville Border Patrol agents conducted record checks on an El Salvadoran national, it was discovered she is a Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) gang member.
All subjects were be processed accordingly.
With the rising numbers of unaccompanied alien children, family units, and single adults encountered by Border Patrol; criminal alien apprehensions are also increasing. RGV sector has apprehended 1,625 criminal aliens fiscal year to date, compared to 338 this time last year, a 380% increase. These criminal aliens were convicted here in the United States for crimes other than immigration, ranging from murder, sexual crimes, assault, and narcotics trafficking.
